Sons of the American Legion
Detachment Commander
A proud 26-year member of the S.A.L., Clive has held leadership roles at every level of the organization. Within his home Squadron, he has served as a multi-year Commander and Adjutant and currently holds the position of Finance Officer. At the District level, he has served as Commander, First Vice Commander, Chaplain, and as a multi-year Adjutant. At the Detachment level, he has served as Zone Commander and Adjutant. Additionally, Clive has chaired numerous Detachment-level committees, helping shape impactful programs across the state.
Clive’s eligibility for membership in the Sons of The American Legion comes through both his late father and grandfather. His father served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a combat tracker, and his grandfather served during World War II as an aircraft mechanic working on B-24 Liberators. Their legacy of service continues to inspire Clive’s dedication to the American Legion Family and the values it upholds.
A lifelong resident of Jackson, Michigan, Clive proudly represents Rose City Squadron 324 and remains committed to supporting the entire Legion Family and his local community. Outside of his Legion service, Clive is deeply involved in Scouting, serving as Committee Chair for both Cub Scout Pack 339 and Scouts BSA Troop 396, as well as a registered Merit Badge Counselor. His 12-year-old son, Clive C.A., is a motivated Scout currently working toward his Star rank, and the two regularly team up on camping trips, merit badge work, and community service projects.
Clive is proudly supported by his “Commander’s Lady,” Stephanie, who shares his commitment to family, service, and Scouting. She currently serves as Cubmaster of Pack 339, and together they enjoy staying actively involved in both the Legion Family and the Scouting community. Along with her children, Tom and Felicity, they form a close-knit blended family that values tradition, teamwork, and giving back.
As Detachment Commander, Clive is focused on strengthening communication across all levels of the organization, growing membership, and deepening engagement with Squadrons throughout Michigan. He is a strong advocate for youth involvement, working to support and expand Legion Family programs that empower the next generation. With a “Veterans First” mindset, Clive is committed to ensuring that all initiatives honor and serve those who have worn the uniform. He is currently leading efforts to raise funds for the installation of a dedicated fishing dock at Wilwin Lodge, a lasting and meaningful project that will benefit veterans, Scouts, and volunteers for years to come.
With a professional background in facility maintenance, Clive is known for rolling up his sleeves, finding smart solutions, and leading with both heart and humor. When he’s not volunteering, Clive enjoys fishing, camping, kayaking, and exploring Michigan’s trails on his side-by-side with family and friends. As Detachment Commander, he’s excited to work alongside members across Michigan to strengthen, unite, and build upon the proud legacy of the organization.
